Maliik has proven to be quite the dog over the years. He was the male we kept here at Spiritrun Kennel from our first litter. He was a bit obnoxious as a youngster, quite frankly, he rarely shuts up. He needs to be working to be in complete balance. Times of limbo are unnerving to him. He doesn't care what the task, but he needs to be doing "stuff". He is a cooperative, successful and enthusiastic show dog, but to say he is an enthusiastic sled-dog is an understatement. Dogsledding is what this mighty man lives for and thrives on. Maliik has run in tandem lead with his sister, Crystal, for twelve years. They are still capable of running lead together, even with a wild pack of youngsters behind them. Maliik finished both Canadian and American championships early in his life and took a back seat in the show ring to his brother Tobe, who we campaigned for many years. After a seven, yes, seven year hiatus, Maliik re-emerged at ten years old to play around in the show rings, for no other reason than I simply thought he looked pretty good. What a great thrill when he won the Working Group at the Monarch dog show. Everyone thought this young man was a Tobe son! Then, after another two-year hiatus, in which he took some time off to sire two litters, naturally, Maliik re-emerged again to win, as a twelve year old, Best of Breed, a Working Group 4th and Best Veteran in (all-breed) Show at the Barrie show in 2010. I can assuredly say that that was one of my proudest moments in my show career.
